Choir Date Reminders

We have a lot planned for the end of the year, so I just wanted to give you a brief reminder of things happening in May…


May 10 – No 5th grade practice due to STAAR testing


May 11th – 4th and 5th grade practice @ 7:45…gate opens @ 7:35


May 16 - @ 6:30 Mini Choir concert & PTO Board Elections for 2017-18 year

                        (Choir shirt and jeans)


May 24 - 8:30 – 1:00 Choir Field Trip to the Houston Symphony

                        (Dress Sunday best for field trip...5th grade awards begin at 1:45)


June 13     Houston Astros National Anthem performance!!!

Meet Mrs. Adams between 5 -5:30 at the right field gate at the corner of Hamilton & Preston.

(Choir shirt w black pants and black shoes….nothing else will be accepted. We must look our best. If I child shows up in anything other    than their current Choir shirt, black pants and black shoes, they will not be able to perform. Let me know by Friday if you need me to order another one…the cost will be $18.)

I just received word that they have changed the location line up for the parade this Saturday due to construction at MJH.  We will now meet in the back parking lot of MES between 9:15-9:30. We will then proceed to the line up on Elm St. through the MES gates. I am excited about this change so the kids can use the restroom and get a drink before we begin lining up! The pick up location will now be Magnolia United Methodist Church on Commerce St. at 11:15-11:30.  The kids can bring candy to pass out if they wish. We are all very excited and are looking forward to having fun on Saturday! Please email or text me on Remind if you have any questions! I have attached a copy of the new map!

The parade has been canceled for tomorrow due to the weather.  So far, we are still on for tonight's performance at Unity Park. Please have the students there by 6pm. We perform 2 songs at 6:12 under the pavilion. We are hoping the rain holds off, but please come prepared with umbrellas. If you have not signed up for REMIND, please do so.  This is the best way to communicate with parents.  text @meschoir2 to 81010.

*Students will meet Friday 12/2 at Unity Park to the right of the pavilion at 6pm.  They will need to wear their Choir shirts with black pants and black shoes.  We perform 2 songs at 6:12.  
*Parents will need to drop off students on Saturday 12/3 for the parade at the front of MJH between 9:15-9:30. The parade starts at 10 and ends around 11ish. Please pick up your child at The Alpha Academy no later than 11:45.  Kids need to wear PJ's and be warm! Possible rain showers may require raincoats and umbrellas!

Permission slips are due today! They will not be accepted in the morning. 5th graders will need to bring their sack lunch or $10 in the morning.  Please drop all Choir students at the side gate by 7:45 in the morning so we can get prepared to leave exactly at 8:30. Parents can meet us at the RenFest, cost is $9.  We will be performing at the Barbarian Inn @ 9!  Please, please, please sign up for REMIND....text @meschoir2 to 81010.

Parents, our Choir trip to the RenFair Music Fest is fast approaching.  We will leave on Wednesday, Nov 2 at 8:30am. We are the first to perform at 9:00am. 5th grade will return around 2pm and 4th grade will return at 10:30am so they can have lunch before loading their bus for AG Day at MHS.  The kids will have a permission slip that needs to be filled out and returned by Monday.  5th grade has 2 choices for lunch that day.  They may bring a sack lunch, or bring $10 cash and that will get them an entree, drink and 2  passes to return to the RenFest at a later date.  I think that is an awesome deal!  Parents may attend, the cost will be $9 at the gate.  I will have 2 5th gr. and 2 4th gr. teachers going with us also.  Please email me if you have any questions and if you have not signed up for REMIND, please do so now!  Text @meschoir2 to 81010.
Updates 9/23/16
Well, our first meeting with the 2016-2017 MES Choir went well!  I appreciate the parents that got their kids to school early and were efficient at dropping them off at the side gate on Elm St. This is a huge help.  The kids were given 2 sheets of music and a purple paper with lots of information on it.  Please sign up for REMIND 101 by texting @meschoir2 to 81010.  I need shirt sizes and $8 by Sept 30. We have a lot of stuff planned and have hit the ground running!  We are extremely excited about whats to come for the MES Choir!

Practice begins Wednesday Sept 21 for 5th grade and Thursday, Sept 22 for 4th grade.  We will meet in the music room from 7:45-8:15.  Please drop your child off at the side gate on Elm St.  I will open the gate at 7:35 and will close it promptly at 7:45.  Please make one line on the school side of the road. I do not want children crossing Elm St.  If you are a few minutes late, take your child through the car rider line, it begins moving at 7:45.

*******Sign up forms for Choir are going out in September 6 Tuesday folder, and will need to be turned in by Sept 12.  We will begin practice Sept 21, where I will pass out information to the students in reference to practice times.  If we have a large group like last year, 5th will practice on Wednesday mornings and 4th on Thursday mornings.  Practice times are from 7:45-8:15.  Please email me if you have any questions at *********

We are looking forward to another amazing year in Choir.  All 4th and 5th grade students are encouraged to join. We will meet once a week in the mornings from 7:45-8:15.  Last year we attended the first ever Greater North Houston Choral Festival where we received a Division II trophy for our performance and had multiple performances throughout the year.  If a student is interested in joining Choir, please have them pick up a form from Mrs. Adams in Music class.
